Antonia Kuo (1987, Nueva York) es una artista interdisciplinaria que trabaja con la fotografía, el cine, la escultura, la pintura y el grabado. Actualmente se encuentra cursando una maestría en Bellas Artes en Pintura en la Universidad de Yale. Recibió su licenciatura en Bellas Artes de la Escuela del Museum of Fine Arts de Boston y Tufts University. También completó el programa anual en fotografía en el International Center of Photography donde recibió el Alan L. Model Grant. Antonia fue laureada con el Premio Robert and Stephanie Olmsted cuando fue becaria de la Macdowell Colony en el 2014. También ha sido becaria en el Banff Center, en el Center for Photography en Woodstock y en el Vermont Studio Center.

Antonia Kuo (b. 1987, New York, NY) is an interdisciplinary artist working with photography, film, sculpture, drawing, painting and printmaking. She is currently an MFA candidate in Painting at Yale University and received her BFA from School of the Museum of Fine Arts Boston and Tufts University, and a one-year certificate from the School of the International Center of Photography under the Alan L. Model Grant. Antonia was awarded the Robert and Stephanie Olmsted Award as a MacDowell Colony Fellow in 2014, as well as fellowships at The Banff Centre, Center for Photography at Woodstock, The Vermont Studio Center and Liaison of Independent Filmmakers of Toronto.

Antonia Kuo trabaja con papel de gelatina de plata y con prácticas experimentales dentro del cuarto oscuro, utilizando materiales fotográficos para registrar sus intervenciones con la luz. El papel es tratado rigurosamente con resistencias y variados procesos químicos. Las obras de Kuo son permutaciones únicas; sus colores y formas son determinados por una metodología variable, acciones aleatorias y procesos de revelado. Debido a la inestabilidad del proceso químico, las obras cambian y se degradan con el tiempo, creando un diálogo con lo transitorio y degenerativo.

Las piezas en Notas al Futuro - CDMX re-configuran las fotografías tomadas por la artista, fragmentándolas en un campo reticular dictado por la superficie ondulada de la cerámica esculpida a mano.

Antonia Kuo works with silver gelatin paper and experimental darkroom practices, using photographic material to record light and her interventions. The paper is rigorously treated with resists and processed in chemistry. Kuo’s works are unique permutations, their color and forms determined by variable methodology, chance actions and development. Due to the unstable chemical process, the prints shift and degrade with time, creating a dialogue with the transitory or degenerative.

The pieces in Notas al Futuro - CDMX reconfigure photographs the artist took, fragmenting them in a gridded field dictated by the undulating surface of hand-sculpted, marbled ceramic.
