Thomas Moen (b.1994) is a London based artist whose practice lies between photography, sculpture and installation. His work presents material entanglements as examinations of conceptual ideas and emotional reactions, which slip between the photographic and sculptural whilst investigating notions such as; anxiety, the transference and erasure of meaning and the structures they inhabit, indexicality and abstraction. Re-use of material to supplement the new and continuing the lifespan of artworks is integral to Moen’s practice as well as the inclusion of the written word in various and surprising forms. The work is underpinned by physical, aesthetic and conceptual interruptions as well as gestures of repetition on and with photographic matter. The resulting works are shaped by personal experience, history, and an intense engagement with materiality.
