Public Art Ottawa: Microcosm

During this unprecedented time, the world is connecting more than ever, communities are forming in solidarity and around special interests all over the globe. In response to this, the City of Ottawa's Public Art Program is launching Microcosm this summer and I am very excited to announce that my portraits of people I respect, admire and know will included within ward 7 at the Ron Kolbus Lakeside Centre!

Microcosm is a part of the City of Ottawa’s COVID-19 pivot initiatives designed to meet the needs of the community and to support local professional artists. 22 other artist projects will be presented in non-traditional spaces for art across the city. ​

“For far too long, a Euro-centric narrative has dominated historic and contemporary culture with racialized peoples’ stories and contributions ignored or diminished. Ottawa photographer Katherine Takpannie’s body of work on display here, showcases strong, beautiful, multinational individuals as a reminder that we are all a product of complex histories and storied pasts. These portraits are meant to be a starting point to engage in conversation, to be open to others’ experiences and to think about what living in a multicultural society actually means."
