The Purposeful Mayonnaise


Submissions for Volume 3 Issue 6 are open.

Theme:  VOYAGE

Tell us about your journeys - real or imaginary. Daydreaming, too. Send us your best art, words, ideas. 

Please send your submission by email to hello@thepurposefulmayo.com with "YourFirstName YourLastName TPM Issue 3.6" in the subject line. (For example, if your name is Snow White, your subject line would be "Snow White TPM Issue 3.6").

For all submissions: please include a short bio (1-3 sentences) or a blurb about yourself and links to your website and social media (if applicable).

We welcome work from previous contributors. If you have been featured in our journal, we'd like to ask you kindly to sit one out. Please allow at least one issue in between your submissions.

Issue 3.6 publication date is April 15.


We are looking for:

Art: 

Painting, drawing, watercolour, mixed media, analog collage, fine art photography (preference for film photography), sculpture, installation, hybrid projects (art & words, art & science, etc.). We are not looking for digital art.
Please send 1-10 images of your work as jpeg files (at least 1000 px on the shorter side) or a link to your portfolio or body of work. Please DO NOT send a general link to your website/Instagram as your submission. Do not send links with an expiration date. 

Please try to attach the image files instead of embedding them.

Make sure the images are well-lit, cropped around your work, with no frames or background showing except for sculpture and installations.
For each piece please include the title of work, year of completion, medium, dimensions in the body of the email or as an attached Word document.
An artist or process statement is not mandatory but is preferred.

Poetry:

Up to 5 unpublished poems in a single attached Word document (doc/docx file extensions only). 
Submissions should be typed, single-spaced, and paginated.
Erasures, concrete poetry, visual poetry, and poems with irregular indentation should be submitted in PDF format.
We accept simultaneous submissions, but please let us know immediately if your work is accepted elsewhere.


Prose:

Previously unpublished essays, creative nonfiction, fiction (short stories), prose poems up to  3000 words.
Submissions should be typed, double-spaced, and paginated in a single attached Word document (doc/docx file extensions only). Please include the word count on the first page.

We accept simultaneous submissions, but please let us know immediately if your work is accepted elsewhere.  


Hybrid projects: art & words, art & science, etc.

**Thank you for your patience with The Bagel Hole. We hope to resume publishing in early spring 2024.**


The Bagel Hole is where we publish weekly features, artist interviews, poems, short prose.

We're looking for poetry, short stories, ramblings, essays, visual art, visual essays, personal stories. 

We're also looking to showcase writers and artists in short interviews. We aim for a TBH turnaround time of about one month. 

To submit: 

Send us your work by email to hello@thepurposefulmayo.com with the subject line "FirstName LastName TBH" (submissions are free). Please include your website and social media, if applicable, and a short bio (2-3 sentences).

Writing:  12pt, Times New Roman (double-spaced for anything not poetry).  Erasures, concrete poetry, visual poetry, and poems with irregular indentation should be submitted in PDF format.  Submit up to 5 poems or up to 500 words double-spaced for anything not poetry in a Word document. Please use your name for file naming.  We accept reprints, but please let us know where and when it was previously published.

Art: up to 5 low-res photos as attachment or a link to your portfolio/body of work (if successful, we will ask for high-resolution images).  

For interviews: tell us a bit about yourself and your work. Please include a link to your portfolio/body of work, website and/or social media.

The Purposeful Mayonnaise uses Canadian English and reserves the right to edit all written content submitted (writing submissions, artist bios, artist statement, etc.) for grammar / spelling / formatting, without changing the content of your writing.
