Hmong spirit

Feb 2017

A journey into Vietnam's far north mountain villages, almost bordering China. Cold, misty, snowy, and hard terrain would be a few ways to describe the place. This was my journey into the unknown Hmong village life on my third trip through Hanoi, Vietnam. A few things have changed since my first visit in 2008. Not many had mobile phones back then, but it was just as beautiful in 2017. Hmong is one of the 54 ethnic groups in Vietnam. The Hmong people occupy the mountainous regions of North Vietnam and are often spotted in the provinces of Ha Giang, Lao Cai, Sa Pa, Lai Chau, and Son La. Hmong women seem to work much harder than men. Neither freezing cold nor rain seems to dampen their spirits.
