"I felt like you were holding my hand through an extremely deep and sensitively raw experience. I've come out the other side so much more aware of myself and ready to let go of my critical voice that keeps me stuck. I'm just so grateful that you shared your light, your super power." - Lissa

All hypnosis is self-hypnosis.

The term hypnosis can conjure different meanings depending on how you have been exposed to the idea. When I speak about hypnosis, I am referring to the practice of deep, guided meditation in a safe, controlled, autonomous and therapeutic setting.

Hypnosis is essentially meditation with a guide, and usually includes positive "suggestions" similar to affirmations, that help move a client towards better habits or beliefs based on their desired outcome. When I create suggestions for my clients, I am using their own words, desires and language.

Hypnosis is not sleep. You will remain awake and fully conscious throughout the experience and you will remember everything. In fact, you will be "super conscious" because you will be accessing your subconscious mind which makes up 90% of your mental processing.

I do not practice "stage hypnosis" (entertainment hypnosis). What you see on TV and in the movies is not an accurate portrayal of therapeutic hypnosis. All hypnosis is self-hypnosis. No one can hypnotize you without your consent. No hypnosis practitioner can make you do or say anything that you don't agree with. The practice of hypnosis is never successful unless the participant is open and willing to participate.

In my practice, I take time to be fully present with my clients to understand how they want to feel or transform. Once I have the information, I will work with them to develop positive affirmations using their own desires and language. I will guide them into a deeply relaxed state, a theta brainwave state, where the critical thinking mind can quiet and a new mindset or habit can be introduced in to the subconscious.

The more you practice, the deeper you go. Just as with any activity, the more you do it, the better you get. The same goes for hypnosis. You may not go very "deep" in your first session, but the more you practice, the more transformative your results will be. You may experience deep transformation in one session, but depending on your goals, somewhere between 6-12 sessions is recommended to truly alter a belief or to transform a habit.

"Hypnosis with Amy was amazing! She did a great job coaching me before, during and after the hypnosis session. I reached a point in my mind I had no idea was there. I made a huge breakthrough with Amy and will continue hypnosis with her!" - Marissa Y.

Hypnosis FAQs:

Is it safe? Yes, hypnosis is safe and relaxing. The theta brainwave state is a natural state that all humans come in and out of every day. You cannot get "stuck" in hypnosis, however it is not recommended to practice while driving or operating machinery.

Does hypnosis work virtually? Yes, you do not need to be in person for hypnosis to be effective. It can be facilitated over phone or video.

What does it feel like? For most people it feels exactly like meditation. For me, sometimes I feel as though I am being gently grounded by gravity, slightly more than usual. Some people feel lighter or tingly. However you experience hypnosis is perfect. There is no right or wrong way. It is normal for the mind to wander, to move your body while in hypnosis... go ahead and scratch that itch, stretch your muscles, or readjust your position as you need to.

What if I discover a secret or relive a past trauma? Most of the work I do focuses on clarity and mindset shift and we will not likely navigate deeply into the past. If a client finds themselves in an uncomfortable memory, I have tools to help them reframe and resolve negative or painful feelings or emotions that arise. Also, you will still be conscious enough to retain the autonomy to keep any experience or memory private and to yourself.  I can't and wont ask you to reveal any secrets. It is also never my intention, nor the intention of any ethical hypnosis practitioner, for a client to re-experience trauma of any kind. That being said, I am not a therapist, and if you have concerns about past trauma, I recommend working with a licensed therapist prior to or in tandem with hypnosis.
