Instagram's 'normalandboring' is anything but

Take a look at the quirky, careful considerations of this abstract photographer.

“Normal” and “boring” hardly come close to describing the kinds of photos that Jon Sherman takes, but as the photographer tells us, the self-appointed moniker is more of a cheeky nod to the over-saturation of seemingly “bad” photos that have become popular on Instagram and Tumblr.

Toronto-born Sherman is relatively new to photography, although he first developed an interest in visual aesthetics during his earlier days shooting skate videos—a job that took him anywhere from Montreal to San Francisco. At first glance, his photos seem to embody the exact subject matter that he pokes fun at, but the careful (and often quirky) consideration of color, line, and timing immediately become apparent in his work.
