New Limited Edition Travel Photography Book by Theo Gosselin and Maud Chalard

This photography power couple published a stunning project with Paris-based studio Wombat.

Théo Gosselin and Maud Chalard are a photographic dream team. The French couple, both known for their dreamy, high-color shots, recently embarked on a cross-America road trip, documenting the resulting work in a book titled Joe’s Road.

The open road and tons of sunlight are consistent themes across both Gosselin and Chalard’s photography. Be warned: their work might make you seriously consider dropping everything for the beach, forest, or mountains.

Speaking to Format before his journey across the United States, Gosselin said, “It’s new for me to travel with my girlfriend. We want to make a book about the trip and our different visions.”

Now their trip and book are completed, and the Paris-based studio Wombat is releasing a gorgeous sample of Joe’s Road for Wombat Box No. 23.

Every two months, Wombat puts out a box showcasing the work of two emerging artists, through two numbered prints and a photo portfolio. Handmade and available in limited editions, Wombat boxes offer a chance for fans to snag new, affordable work from photographers on the rise.

Gosselin and Chalard shared this background about the motivation behind Joe’s Road, and the identity of Joe:

"Paris was grey and life in the city was killing us day after day… Maud quit her job in April and a few weeks later we landed in Montreal with our cameras, ready to make the dream come true. We found Joe, a rusty van, the third character in our adventure. We drove across America; from Quebec to Los Angeles.

"Three breakdowns, twenty thousand kilometers, four hundred cans of beer and only five real showers. With the same cameras we both took pictures every day, showing our intimate life on the road for twelve weeks. Our days on the road were punctuated by the sun and our showers in the rivers.”
