Biography 

Mariela Borello (Argentina) 

Mariela Borello is an Argentinian-Canadian multidisciplinary artist based in Montréal, Québec. Mariela completed undergraduate studies at the University of Ottawa (1981-1982) and at the Ontario College of Art and Design in Toronto (1986). She also holds a bachelor of arts from the University of Guelph and a master’s degree in fine arts in visual arts from Concordia University in Montréal, Québec (1992). Mariela has been the recipient of several awards from the Conseil de arts et lettres du Québec (2002), the Conseil des Arts du Canada (2002,1995,1994, 1995, 1992), and the Ministere des affairs culturelles du Québec (1993). She has taught multidisciplinary workshops at Espace Ouvert in Montréal. 

Mariela Borello’s studio work is based on video, photography, and performance. She uses rudimentary objects and re-assembles them to create an ephemeral experience. Mariela has showcased in the solo exhibitions Inside-Out / L’intérieur révélé (2020), Á fleur de peau (2019), and Perdre l’équilibre (2018), all at Galerie Luz Zapata, Montreal. She has been part of the collective exhibitions S.U.D., Salon Urbain de Douala, triennal d’art contemporain, Douala, Cameroun, EUREKA! (2006), coordinated by Sandra Margolian, Galerie Fofa, at Concordia University in Montréal, and the L’ENTRESPACE, Saidye Bronfman Centre of the Arts, Montréal.
