Biography 

Guillermina Buzio (Argentina) 

Guillermina Buzio is an Argentinian visual artist, curator, and educator based in Toronto. Guillermina holds a bachelor’s in fine arts from the Universidad Nacional de las Artes in Argentina (1998), in addition to a bachelor of media arts from Emily Carr University in Vancouver (2003) and a master of fine arts from the Ontario College of Art and Design University (OCAD) in Toronto (2010). Since 2010 she has taught courses such as Intro to Video Editing in the Continuing Studies program at OCAD and the Video Editing for Youth and Latin American Women community workshop at independent platforms including LIFT, Charles Street Video, and Trinity Square Video. From 2015 to 2018 she was also the New Visions workshop facilitator for the Inside Out LGBTQ2+ Festival. She is a member of Colectivo Toronto, a collective founded in 2014 dedicated to fostering contemporary media art projects and artists. Guillermina has been the recipient of many grants and awards, including the OCAD Media Artist Mid-Career Established Grant, Canada Council for the Arts grants, and Ontario Arts Council grants to continue the development of contemporary art projects for Colectivo Toronto. 

Guillermina Buzio’s studio work is focused on time-based media, performance, installations, and archival material of performance documentation to explore queer identity, family history, and the interpretations of borders and lines. Her films have been screened in film festivals and film screenings in Canada, France, Italy, and Holland. The film Chacarita made in Super 8 media was screened at the 46th International Film Festival Rotterdam in the Netherlands and the 2016 Vidéos de femmes dans le parc (VFP) in Montreal. In addition, her films and installations have been part of solo and group exhibitions such as the video performance Boundaries with Lorena Salomé, which was showcased in Life in Flight (2017) at Sur Gallery in Toronto, curated by Tamara Toledo, and at Nuit Rose Toronto in 2015.
