Biography 

María Luisa de Villa (Oaxaca, Mexico) 

María Luisa de Villa is a Mexican visual artist, curator, and scholar based in Etobicoke, Ontario. She holds a diploma in lithography from Cambrian College in Sudbury (1972), and a bachelor in fine arts from York University (1986). In 2000 she completed a master’s in fine art from the Universidad Autonoma de Mexico. She has been an educator for over twenty years in Canada. 

María Luisa de Villa's studio work uses drawing and painting to reflect the vibrant Mexican flora, fauna, textures, and colour palette. She has showcased throughout 50 years in Canada and Mexico, including the solo exhibitions Milpa-pel II (2012) at Arte de Oaxaca, Mexico, and Monarca Papolotl (2000) at the Justina M. Barnicke Gallery at the University of Toronto. Her work is part of La Mano Mágica Galería de Arte Contemporáneo y Popular, Oaxaca de Juarez collection.
