Biography  

Nikole Hidalgo McGregor (Tacna, Peru) 

Nikole Hidalgo McGregor is a Peruvian-Canadian designer, researcher, and new media visual artist based in Toronto. She holds a certificate in design studies with honours distinction from Algonquin College in Ottawa (2014), a bachelor of fine arts in integrated media with distinction from the Ontario College of Art and Design in Toronto (2018), a master of arts in communication and culture from Toronto Metropolitan University in Toronto (2022), and in the same year she began a doctorate in cinema studies from the University of Toronto. Nikole’s films have been part of the OCAD campus life Consent video series. In 2019, in partnership with Carlos McGregor, she was part of the Roundtable self-directed residency program hosted at the Dragon Academy in Toronto. 

Nikole Hidalgo McGregor’s studio work uses mixed-media film and technology to explore the deep relationships between aesthetics and socially aware narratives. Her new media works have been exhibited in galleries, screenings, and film festivals including the Aga Khan Museum Light Up the Dark series of projections (2022), Paved Art online screening (2020–2021), and featured in the VisuElles Film Festival (2019).
