Biography  

Erik Jerezano (born 1973, Mexico) 

Erik Jerezano is a Mexican visual artist based in Toronto. He is a self-taught artist who specializes in drawing on paper and murals. Erik was a recipient of the 2021 Toronto Arts Council Emerging Artist Grant. In 2004 he co-founded Z’otz* Collective with the artists Nahúm Flores and Ilyana Martínez, which is dedicated to collaborative drawings, paintings, and sculptures to create engaging installations. 

Erik Jerezano’s studio work is with large-scale and mural drawings. His work is instructed by Mexican myths and fables brought into a contemporary perspective to reflect history. Erik has been showcased in several exhibitions with the Z'otz* Collective including at Robert Langen Art Gallery and Wilfrid Laurier University Library (2023), in Waterloo, Ontario, curated by Suzanne Lake, at Visual Art Centre (2023) in Montreal, and at the Gardiner Museum (2022) in Toronto. His work has also been showcased in the solo exhibition Fragments and Fictions (2022) at the Gardiner Museum of Ceramic Art in Toronto.
