Biography 

Luz de Lourdes Ladrón de Guevara Cervantes also known as Lulú Ladrón de Guevara (born 1959, Mexico City, Mexico) 

Luz de Lourdes Ladrón de Guevara Cervantes also known as Lulú Ladrón de Guevara is a Mexican Latina based in Toronto. Lulú holds a diploma from the Central Technical School Art Centre in Toronto. Throughout the years she has continued informing her practice by participating in several residencies including the 2012 Banff Artist in Residence in Alberta and the 2003 Banff Artist in Residence subsidized by Fondo Nacional para la Cultura y las Artes (FONCA) in Mexico. At the Institute of Creative Exchange in Toronto, Lulú was part of several workshops in 2017 including Art and Annulment by Gustavo Artigas, Art and Collectivity, and Autobiography and Fiction. She received a Visual Artist grant from the Ontario Arts Council in 2018 and the Emerging Visual Artist grant from the Ontario Arts Council in 2015. 

Lulú’s studio work is focused on painting and sculpture with abstract geometric shapes, illumination, and colour palettes from her everyday surroundings to reflect nature. She has showcased in solo exhibitions including Estados transitorios (2019) at Galeria Oscar Roman in Mexico City and Traces and Trail (2013) at INDEXG (front gallery) in Toronto. Her work has also been part of collective exhibitions including Paralelas Contemporaneas XIII (2020) and Paralelas Contemporaneas XII (2019), both at Galeria Oscar Roman in Mexico, and When the Owl Sings (2018) at the Artspace Wychwood Barns Gallery in Toronto. Lulú’s work is part of the Rukaj Gallery in Toronto.
