Biography 

Fabiola Martínez (Querétaro, Mexico) 

Fabiola Martínez is a Mexican architect and visual artist based in Mexico and St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador. Fabiola holds a bachelor of arts in architecture from the Instituto Tecnológico de Querétaro in Mexico. She is an active member of the St. John’s community and was named community champion by the YMCA of Greater Saint John’s in 2018. She is also a member of the board of directors of Craft New Brunswick. Fabiola has been the recipient of multiple awards and grants including the award for the Creation and Documentation Program (2022) from Arts New Brunswick and a Traveling Grant (2016) to participate in the educational mission to SOFA Chicago granted by the Department of Tourism from the Heritage and Culture of New Brunswick. 

Fabiola’s studio work is to create paintings focused on combining the Canadian landscape with a bright colour palette including red colour extracted from the cochineal insect endemic to Mexico, Africa, and South America. Her work has been showcased in the solo exhibitions Relfexion (2020) at the Handwork Gallery in Saint John, New Brunswick, Mystical (2019) at the Théâtre Capitol Theatre in Moncton, New Brunswick, Connected (2018) at Handwork Gallery, and the Lotton Gallery in Chicago (2017). Her work has also been part of collective exhibitions including Art for the Ports: Port Reflections (2018) by ACPA Building for the Future at the Delta Hotel by Marriott Saint John.
