Biography
Sofia Mesa (born 1995, Bogota, Colombia)
Sofia Mesa is a Colombian visual artist based in Toronto. Sofia holds a bachelor of fine arts in integrated media (2019) from Ontario College of Art and Design University. Sofia is a member of the Sister Co-Resister feminist collective, founded in 2013 by Pamila Matharu. In 2016 she was part of the Vibe Arts emerging artist residency program in Toronto.
Sofia Mesa’s studio work is through design and photographs within a feminist framework to reflect on displacement and preconceptions on womanhood. Sofia has showcased in the solo exhibitions Guardians (2018) at Allan Gardens as part of the Scotiabank Contact Photography Festival and Clothing and Soup (2016) at Vibe Arts in Toronto. She has also been part of the collective exhibitions True Currency (2022), curated by Leila Timmins at the Robert McLaughlin Gallery in Toronto, Gardening (2020) at ma ma in Toronto (2020), and Every. Now. Then: Reframing Nationhood (2017) at the Art Gallery of Ontario in Toronto.
