Biography  

Ruth A. Mora Izturriaga (Latin American) 

Ruth Mora Izturriaga is a Latin American educator and visual artist based in Toronto. Ruth holds a bachelor’s degree in architecture from Simon Bolivar University in Caracas, Venezuela, a master of architecture from the University of Toronto, and a master of fine arts in new forms emphasis with honours from the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York. Since 2006 she has been a guest lecturer at the Pratt Institute, the University of Pennsylvania, and the University of Toronto. She has received many grants and awards, including the 2022 Ontario Arts Council craft projects grant, the Master of Fine Arts Outstanding Merit award from Pratt Institute (2013), and the Master of Fine Arts Pratt Circle from Pratt Institute. She is a member of the SUMOfc art collective, dedicated to designing and producing art through interdisciplinary concepts. 

Ruth Mora Izturriaga’s studio work is focused on inhabitable sculptures, installations, and printmaking. Through design, she references anatomic images and nature to allow spatial experiences. Ruth has showcased the installation Impermanence in collaboration with Michèle Guevara (2023) for Design TO at the Clay Space Studio window in Toronto, the Other Art Fair (2018) presented by Saatchi in Brooklyn, New York, and Comfort Food in collaboration with Michèle Guevara (2017) at Dylan Ellis Gallery as part of the Toronto Design Offsite Festival in Toronto.
