Biography
Osvaldo Ramírez Castillo (born 1978, El Salvador)
Osvaldo Ramírez Castillo is a Salvadorian visual artist based in Vancouver. Osvaldo holds a bachelor’s degree in art from the Ontario College of Art and Design in Toronto (2001) and a master of fine arts in print media from Concordia University in Montreal (2008). In 2022 he was part of the residency program at Griffin Art Projects in Vancouver.
Osvaldo Ramírez Castillo’s studio work explores issues of collective memory, historical trauma, and identity within a global context through multimedia approaches to drawing that include stop-motion animation video, printmaking, and installation work. Osvaldo has showcased in the solo exhibition at the Hallwalls Contemporary Art Center (2022) in Buffalo, New York, and Re-Constructions (2020) at Artcite in Windsor, Ontario. His work has also been part of the collective exhibitions Volver to Return to Become (2022), curated by Miret Rodríguez at North Van Arts, North Vancouver, Histoires comme ça (2022) at Galerie Robert Poulin, Montréal, Québec, and Vehemence (2017), curated by Tamara Toledo at Sur Gallery in Toronto.
