Biography  

Giorgia Volpe (born 1969, Brasil) 

Giorgia Volpe is a Brazilian multidisciplinary artist based in Quebec. Giorgia holds a bachelor’s degree in plastic arts and art education from the University of Sao Paulo in Brazil and a master of fine arts in visual arts from Laval University in Quebec. In 2010 she completed a course in art integration in architecture from the Culture Capitale-Nationale et Chaudière-Appalaches in Québec. She has been the recipient of many awards and grants including from the Board of Art and Letters of Quebec (2013). She was also twice nominated for the exhibition Méandres au Centre Vu et Mouvoi/s’émouvoir (2012) at the Grabielle de Roy Library. She was the finalist for an artwork contest in Quebec City (2011). Giorgia has participated in residencies in Canada and internationally including BACC (2015) from the Bangkok official exchange of Québec and Bangkok, the International Symposium of the Jardin du Précambrien (2015) in Val David, Quebec, and the Americas Pavillion (2015) for the Panamerican Games at the Galerie Sans Nom in Moncton, New Brunswick. 

Giorgia Volpe’s studio work is focused on creating polymorph experiences through video, photographs, installations, and projects in situ about subjects of the collective memory, the landscape, cartography, and social process. She has showcased in solo exhibitions in Canada and internationally, including Tisser l’existant: rétrospective de 15ans de carrière, (2016), curated by Carl Johnson, at the Foreman Art Gallery at Bishop’s University in Quebec, Jardin Nomades in Correspondence to Annik Picchio (2015) at La Buitre in Horme, France, and Remaking the Surfaces (2015) as part of the residency between Quebec and Bangkok at the BACC Institute in Thailand. Her work has also been part of the collective exhibitions Summer Cartography (2022) at Galeria.a, in Quebec, Se la couleur deuce (2015) at the International Multidisciplinary Symposium of Art, and the Bienal de Douro II GLOBAL PRINT (2015) at Núcleo de Gravura de Alijó in Portugal. Her work has been collected by Canadian and international institutions including the Loto-Québec Collection, the Museu de Gravura de Douro, Alijo, Portugal, and the Library of the City of Québec Gabrielle la Roy.
