Nossos amigos da Revista Karma! took over our channels this week, and if you missed it, we’ve got you covered. You may already know them from the Karma! Awards, an event we were proud to sponsor, supporting the Best Fan Photo category. But, if you haven’t, here’s your chance to learn more. Over five days, the takeover pulled back the curtain on the people, ideas, and values driving one of the most exciting publications to come out of the UK and Ireland right now. Founded in 2024, Karma! Magazine is dedicated to elevating female and non-binary voices across art, photography, fashion, music, culture, and poetry, and the fit with Format felt obvious from the start. What the week became was something we didn’t want you to miss: a genuine conversation about community, creativity, and what it looks like to build something that actually holds space for people.

Day 1: The Values Behind Karma! and Why Inclusion in Photography Matters

The takeover opened where it had to: with the por que. Karma! member Omonigho Ojeaga laid out the values at the heart of everything they do, inclusion, collaboration, and a real commitment to making room for emerging voices. It’s a mission that sits close to home for us at Format, where we believe the creative community is stronger when more voices are in the room. If you’ve ever felt like the creative industry wasn’t built with you in mind, Karma! is actively trying to change that. It set the tone for everything that followed.

Day 2: Inside a Winning Music Photography Portfolio With Hannah Jane Murrell

Co-founders Uchechi Adeboye e Murron Gallagher sat down with Hannah Jane Murrell, winner of the 2025 Karma Award for Best Fan Photo and a Format lifetime portfolio holder, to talk through the story behind her winning image. Hannah’s practice is rooted in music photography, but what makes her work stand out is where she points the camera: not at the stage, but at the world around it. Her winning shot captures the atmosphere surrounding an Oasis show from the fan’s perspective, and the conversation unpacks both the image itself and the portfolio she’s built on Format. A good reminder that some of the most compelling music photography happens outside the pit, and that a strong portfolio site lets that perspective speak for itself.

The image shows a website portfolio for Hannah Jane Murrell, featuring a grid of diverse photographs. The photos include portraits, live music shots, and artistic compositions, showcasing a range of subjects and styles.

Day 3: How to Get Into Concert Photography, With Real Advice From Lily Skyler

Want to get into concert photography but have no idea where to start? Karma! member Lily Skyler brought some genuinely useful, no-fluff advice for breaking in, the kind of practical insight that makes a notoriously hard-to-crack industry feel a little more navigable. And if Lily’s advice gets you motivated to finally pull your work together, your Portfólio Format is a pretty good place to start. This is Karma! doing what it does best: not just celebrating creative work, but actively helping people make it.

Day 4: How Uchechi Adeboye Curates Her Music and Live Performance Portfolio

Uchechi Adeboye joined the Format community when she won the Booooooom x Format: Free Website for Life Giveaway. She’s now had her portfólio de fotografia for almost a year and gave us the full tour of how she’s customized it to fit her practice. Uchechi shoots across music, film, and TV, with a particular pull toward live performance and the intimate, behind-the-scenes moments that exist between artists and their audiences. Watching her move through her Format portfolio, you get a clear sense of how intentional she is about what she shows and how she shows it, every section earns its place. It’s a great model for anyone thinking about how to use their Format site as more than just a gallery.

Day 5: Where Karma! Magazine Is Headed and What the Photography Community Needs

To close out the week, Uchechi and Murron zoomed out, talking about why they started Karma!, where they want to take it, and what they believe the photography community actually needs more of. The conversation touched on creating real, tangible opportunities for underrepresented creatives, and what it means to build something with genuine investment in the people around you. It’s the kind of thinking that sits at the heart of why Format exists too, and why partnerships like this one matter to us. A fitting way to end a week that felt, throughout, like it was made with care.

What Comes Next for Karma! and Format

Karma! brought so much honesty, warmth, and creative energy to our channels this week, and we hope you felt it too. The takeover gave us all a fuller picture of the community they’re building and why it matters. This won’t be the last you see of Karma! and Format together, so follow both of us to stay in the loop on what’s coming next, because if this week was anything to go by, there’s a lot more worth showing up for.
