Starting September 18th, Australian-based Altair Zine is taking over Format’s Instagram account. Follow along at @useformat.

Altair is an online publication with a focus on showcasing analog photography from all around the world. Since launching in February 2015, they’ve worked with over 800 emerging photographers to publish photo series, host photo shows, and create several printed zines.

The photography published on Altair is always personal and candid, offering a view into the experiences and lives of a diverse range of young photographers. Analog film series are the focus, sharing memories from California and the Azores to Japan and Sao Paulo.

We asked Altair Zine editor Sebastian Wighton to curate a selection of new work from some standout photographers featured on his site. He picked out Gianna Hayes and Bobby Banks as two to watch—talented photographers shooting portraits and creative editorial work, often on 35mm.

Bobby Banks

Based in New York City, Honduran photographer Bobby Banks shoots editorial and portrait photography that’s lively and real. “Bobby Banks aims to create honest work that speaks for itself,” as Sebastian Wighton puts it. Banks has a careful eye for how his photo subjects interact with their surroundings, often setting fashion shoots against an urban environment to create just the right amount of visual contrast.
