Announcing InFrame: a new documentary film series revealing the unique journeys of rising creative professionals
Toronto, ON — June 2, 2015 — Today, portfolio website platform Format launches InFrame , a new documentary video series produced in collaboration with award-winning filmmaker Bas Berkhout.
The series of intimate shorts, filmed by Bas Berkhout, cofounder and director of Like Knows Like, follows the creative journeys of talented professionals a part of the Format community. Tracing the beautiful — and sometimes turbulent — paths to success of photographers, artists, designers and illustrators around the world, InFrame gets to the heart of the person behind the professional.
From their humble beginnings to their unforgettable triumphs, viewers discover how these incredible artists excel at their craft.
“As a documentarian, I’m fascinated by humans who try to give meaning to their lives,” comments Berkhout. “InFrame chronicles not only the stories of creative professionals who have persevered to make meaningful work, but the characteristics and beliefs that got them to where they are today.”
The inaugural episode of InFrame features Jessica Lehrman , a Brooklyn-based photographer best known for her raw visual documentation of contemporary underground movements. From protests and social revolutions to the belly of hip hop’s underground community, Lehrman has captured the glamour, grit, goals, and gratitude of some of the biggest names in today’s music, issues and cultural concerns arenas.
After falling into photography by default, it’s no small feat that she’s toured with Jermaine Dupri, visited fracking sites with Yoko Ono, spent a day in the life with the likes of Kendrick Lamar and the Flaming Lips, and had work published in Rolling Stone, The New York Times, Vanity Fair, Billboard, VICE and more.
“Like Bas, we believe a great story has the power to inspire,” explains Format CEO & Creative Director , Lukas Dryja. “With InFrame, we hope to break down the barriers some may still feel around pursuing their passion full-time. You can be creative and be successful at the same time — it might not be easy but it’s possible, and, without a doubt, rewarding.”
